British bosses have been reminded that one of the most effective ways for them to bring down gas and electricity bills is to boost their energy efficiency.

Emily Farnsworth, corporate engagement director of the Climate Group, pointed out that introducing green measures can ultimately lead to cheaper operational costs.

In an article for ClimateChangeCorp.com, she also noted that many mainstream firms are not availing of the economic and environmental opportunity.

"Measures like insulating buildings and upgrading ancient air conditioning units will save cash even if it means spending a bit in the first year or so," Ms Farnsworth explained.

She added that ascertaining areas of energy waste and dealing with them can "really reduce the operating costs of a manufacturing site or division".
