A developer has unveiled multi-million pound plans to build luxury beach huts across the UK, in an attempt to make holidaying in this country more glamorous.

Beach Hut Resorts is hoping to win planning consent for its first resort in Whitley Bay, near Newcastle, which is set to house 21 luxury huts at a cost of £2 million.

The company then plans to create similar developments across the country, with 20 potential sites having already been identified.

Beach Hut Resorts managing director Darren Baker said: “The aim is to retain the character of the traditional beach hut but bring it up to date with 21st century accommodation. They will hopefully bring something colourful and different to the coastline.

“We are aiming to re-brand the staycation holiday, to enhance all that these exciting locations have to offer.”

The company is funded at present by three private partners, but Mr Baker said they would be looking to expand investment opportunities.
